As part of the implementation of the UNDP project ““The Project for Supporting Self-Reliance through Climate Resilient Agriculture in the Aral Sea Region,””, in February 2025, a ToT was organized for facilitators who will work with local entrepreneurs and communities in the target areas of the Republic of Karakalpakstan to promote the “One Village One Product” concept in Chimbay, Kegeyli, Khodjeyli and Nukus districts.

The «OVOP» project focuses on the development of sustainable small and medium-sized enterprises in rural areas of the Aral region. Its goal is to improve the level of self-sufficiency of local communities through the creation and development of unique products using local resources, which predominates in the Aral region. This approach significantly improves the quality of life in rural areas, providing jobs for the population and increasing access to quality goods and services.
During the seminars, which were held from 20 to 26 February this year, facilitators actively shared the concept of «OVOP», and possible applications of approaches in rural areas, taking into account local characteristics and challenges related to climate change. The participants of the training seminar – entrepreneurs of small and medium—sized businesses, artisans and homeworkers — gained valuable knowledge on how to develop their business, effectively use local resources and ensure sustainable production.
In addition, during the seminars, the facilitators discussed how the production of goods from local resources, including design of packaging, labels and quality control, can be used to promote products to both local and global markets. Special attention was given to the development of creative and sustainable business models that will help local residents to provide for themselves and their families.
Such seminars are important for the region because they help local entrepreneurs not only to develop their skills, but also to adapt to changing climatic conditions, thus ensuring a sustainable future for rural communities in the Aral Sea.
